How your coach uses AI
Your coach is powered by large language models from third-party AI providers, such as OpenAI. Voice features also use speech providers to turn your voice into text and your coach’s replies into speech.
Your consent
When you first set up flourish, we ask your permission to share your data with our AI providers. flourish can’t coach you without it, so it’s required to use the app.
What’s shared
To write a reply that fits you, your coach sends the provider the information relevant to the conversation. This can include:
- your first name and timezone
- your recent conversations with your coach, in the app, by voice, on WhatsApp and on iMessage
- your goals, plans, activities and notes
- what your coach has learned about you over time
- your health data, if you’ve connected it
- photos, documents and voice messages you send
On a voice call, your speech is transcribed so your coach can respond. The transcript is saved in your conversation; the audio of the call itself isn’t recorded.

What your coach remembers
Your coach keeps a long-term memory of what you tell it so you don’t have to repeat yourself. See What your coach knows about you. Deleting your account deletes this memory.
Messaging apps
If you connect WhatsApp or iMessage, messages there pass through those services as well. Your coach keeps sensitive details out of those chats and points you back to the app when they’re needed.
Safety
If a conversation suggests someone may be at risk, it may be flagged to the flourish team so we can check the coach responded appropriately.
